One key, one shuriken Ninja

Every key you press throws a shuriken!

📖 How to play and more

What is Ninja Typing?

Every time you press the right key, a ninja throws a shuriken and hits a target. It is a 60-second typing game. You don’t have to finish a word first: every correct key throws a shuriken and adds to your score. There is no time-up scene and no game over. Mistakes never take points away, and you can go right on. There is nothing to install, and it is free to play in your browser.

How to play

  1. Press “Start” (or the space bar), and the 60 seconds begin.
  2. Look at the word in the middle and type its letters. The letters you have typed turn gold.
  3. Each correct key throws a shuriken and adds to your score. You also earn experience, and your “ninja rank” goes up.
  4. As your rank goes up, the words slowly get longer, and the shuriken get flashier: bigger, thrown two at a time, and wrapped in flames.
  5. Type 10 keys in a row correctly to start “Shadow clones”: a second ninja appears and the shuriken fly twice as hard. At 20 in a row it becomes ×2.5, and at 30 it becomes ×3, with even more shuriken. A mistake makes the clone disappear, but you never lose points.
  6. Finish a word to get a “scroll” and unleash a big move, such as the Leaf Whirlwind or a swirl of Fire Jutsu.
  7. When the 60 seconds are up, your score and title are announced, and this game’s shuriken play again as a finale.

Trainee → Genin → Chunin → Jonin → Kage

You start with short words of three or four letters. As your ninja rank goes up, the words get longer, and later two words come together with a space between them (press the space bar for it). You don’t need to choose a level: the practice keeps up with how much you improve. Within one game, the same word rarely comes up twice.

A different village every day

The scenery of the ninja village (mountains, bamboo grove, castle, moonlit night) changes with the date. On the same day, it is the same on every device.

Score and titles

Your score grows by “1 key × ninja rank”, and during Shadow clones a multiplier (×2 → ×2.5 → ×3) is added. The longer you keep going without a mistake, the faster your score grows. There is no top ninja rank. Each time the gauge on the right fills up, your rank goes up, the shuriken get bigger, and each key is worth more points. Depending on your score, you get a title: Apprentice ninja → Ninja → Skilled ninja → Master of shinobi → Legendary ninja. Your personal best is saved only on this device.

For parents

Ninja Typing is free with no sign-up, and there is nothing to buy. Records such as the personal best and the sound setting are saved only in your browser and are never sent to a server. Mistakes don’t cost points and there is no time-up scene, so children who are just starting to type can practice while feeling what they can do. With the on-screen keyboard, it can also be played by tapping the screen of a tablet. From “⚙ Settings” on the title screen, you can choose lowercase or UPPERCASE letters and show or hide the on-screen keyboard.
