How to print

Double-sided makes a front page and a left-right mirrored back page (choose "long-edge binding"). Single-sided prints front and back next to each other to cut, fold and glue.

How to use

  1. Enter your cards: one per line, "front | back". Paste two columns from a spreadsheet if you like.
  2. Or load a JLPT level: open the JLPT kanji lists and tap "Print flashcards for this level" — the whole level loads with kanji on the front and meanings on the back.
  3. Pick a size: large (business-card), medium or small. The per-sheet count shows on screen.
  4. Choose printing: double-sided for a duplex printer, or single-sided fold for a plain printer.
  5. Print and finish: print the first pair to check alignment, then print the rest, cut, and bind with a ring or string.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write the cards?

One card per line. Separate the front and back with a vertical bar "|" — for example "water | みず". You can also paste two columns from Excel or Google Sheets (they come through as tab-separated). A line with no separator becomes a front-only card.

The front and back do not line up when I print double-sided.

Set your printer's double-sided option to "long-edge binding". This tool mirrors the back page left-to-right so it matches under long-edge binding. If it is still slightly off, print the front page only, feed the same sheet back in, and print the back page by hand. Print the first pair first to check alignment before printing everything.

Can I make cards with a single-sided printer?

Yes. Choose "single-sided (fold)". The front and back of each card print next to each other. Cut them out, fold along the centre line so the printed sides face out, and glue the inner faces together — no duplex printer needed.

Can I load JLPT kanji automatically?

Yes. Open this page with ?jlpt=n5 (or n4, n3, n2, n1) and the whole level loads with the kanji on the front and its English meaning on the back. The JLPT kanji list pages link straight here with the level pre-loaded.

Is my input sent to a server?

No. Cards are laid out and printed entirely in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded. Your last input and settings are saved in your browser (localStorage) for next time and never leave your device.
