What is Sea Creatures Typing?
A 60-second typing game where a sea creature swims in every time you press the right key. You don’t have to finish a word first: with each correct key, a creature glides in from the edge of the screen. Each time you finish a word, a creature that matches your level is added to your collection. There is no time-up scene and no game over. Wrong keys never take points away, and you can go right on. Nothing to install: play for free in your browser.
How to play
- Press “Start” (or the space bar) to begin the 60 seconds.
- Look at the word in the middle and type its letters. Letters you have typed turn light blue.
- Each correct key brings a creature swimming in and adds to your score. You also earn experience, and your “diver level” goes up.
- As your level goes up, the words get a little longer, and the creatures you meet change too: crabs and starfish in the shallows → fish → strange deep-sea friends and giants like whales.
- Type 10 correct keys in a row to start the “ocean current bonus”: the light in the water gets stronger and your score grows twice as fast. At 20 in a row it becomes ×2.5, and at 30 it becomes ×3. A mistake ends the bonus, but you never lose points.
- After 60 seconds, your score and title are announced, and the creatures keep swimming in the sea.
Complete the sea creature collection
Each time you finish a word, a creature is added to your collection. The higher your level, the more likely you are to meet creatures of the deep (such as the anglerfish, oarfish and giant squid) and giants (such as the whale shark, manta ray and whales). Meet the same creature many times and its badge grows: 🥉 → 🥇 → 🌈. Collect every creature to earn the title “Ocean Expert”.
Short words → longer words → two-word pairs
You start with short words like “fish” and “sea”. As your diver level goes up, you get longer words like “turtle” and “dolphin”, and then two-word pairs like “orange sea”, where you press the space bar between the words. You don’t have to choose a level: the practice keeps up with you as you improve. The same word does not come up twice in one game.
Score and titles
Your score grows by “1 key × diver level”, and during the ocean current bonus a multiplier (×2 → ×2.5 → ×3) is added. The longer you keep going without mistakes, the faster your score grows. There is no top diver level. Each time the gauge on the right fills up, your level goes up and each key is worth more points. Depending on your score, you earn a title: Beginner Diver → Sea Diver → Skilled Diver → Sea Explorer → Legendary Sea Guardian. Your personal best is saved only on this device.
For parents
Sea Creatures Typing is free and needs no sign-up, with nothing to buy. Records such as the personal best, the sea creature collection and the sound setting are saved only in your browser and are never sent to a server. Mistakes never cost points and there is no time-up scene, so even children who are just starting to type can practice while feeling what they can do. It has an on-screen keyboard, so it can also be played by tapping the screen on a tablet. From “⚙ Settings” on the title screen, you can choose lowercase or UPPERCASE letters and show or hide the on-screen keyboard to suit your child. The creatures in the collection go by their common English names.
